Hello

Practicing horn is a bitch. There, I said it. In order to be any good at playing horn, one has to play everyday. I mainly don't have the kind of mind that is very focused at doing something for at least an hour a day without fail, and so in order to encourage myself to do this, I am starting a blog. A bit about me...

I started the horn at the age of ten, after watching a concert and loving it. I played for two years, then put it down because of school and hectic extra-mural commitments, vowing to pick it up again when I could. Two years down the line I started again, with a different teacher, and have been playing ever since. This is my seventh concurrent year playing horn, or ninth in total. I took my grade 8 ABRSM exam in 2011, and started studying the horn as one of my BA majors in 2013. This is my second year at the College, and after a rocky start, I am finally finding my feet (or my lips, so to speak), with the horn. I have to play in the university orchestra as I am the only registered horn, and find that taxing yet rewarding. I also take part in various ensembles, play at church, and have an hour's lesson every week.

This blog is thrown out there in the hopes that I can document my progress, rant about certain horn things, and share my findings with the universe in general. If I help anyone with their own practice-room nightmares, that would be wonderful, although this blog is primarily for my own gain. I will post once a day for the next three months, recording my practice sessions with snippets of what I'm focussing on, or just stuff to think about.

Feel free to contact me if you want to ask / suggest something, or just say hi. Thanks for stopping by.
